Episode 10- Shrimp Boats and Hat Ladies

I already know it's a double elimination... Top Chef needs to do a better job with their social media when they air this show at 10pm! So annoying!

Oh poor Shirley and Brooke- this could have been be bad with Shirley's motion sickness and Brooke vomit fear... haha! Shrimp fishing, how fun!!! They seemed to have a good time though!

Sudden Death Quickfire- make a shrimp dish! Holy Hell!!! We are some of the BEST chefs left and they might go home on a 30 min shrimp dish! This could be anyone and the bottom 3 will compete! I am so stressed watching this!

Everyone's dish looked good and tasty to me! The winner of this challenge is Sheldon! PHEW!!!

The 3 chefs cooking to the death are Casey, Shirley and Sylva- wow.

Challenge: Make a dish with the bi-catch from today... They have 30 mins again for this Quickfire- SO STRESSED! They all did a great job! BUT someone has to go... and today it's Casey. UGH!!! I am so upset, but if you look at her points total, she has been one of the weakest...

Elimination Challenge is to create a brunch with an innovated mash-up, like the Cronut! I LOVE brunch so this is fun, but hard for these chefs, who have just been through hell, to get creative! Sucks Brooke literally just made a great mash-up brunch item!

Sheldon- FROZEN WAFFLES! Has he not learned anything!?! Oh please don't let that be a nail in his coffin!!! I think his idea is fun though, Korean fried chicken with seaweed butter & waffle crumble! Luckily the judges loved it and called it crave-able!

Sylva's arctic char frittata with morel mushrooms, beet sabayan & pancetta does not seem creative enough... not sure it's the right thing for this challenge. Sucks that the execution didn't happen and he had to scramble his eggs too.

Brooke's matcha & chia greek yogurt with hibiscus & strawberry broth, peanut butter crumble also isn't that creative, it's just plating. Unfortunately her plating isn't working out either. She should have used liquid nitrogen like Tom suggested.

Shirley's beef & cheddar dumpling with bacon tomato jam doesn't seem very brunchy to me, but I lean to breakfast, not lunch with my brunch! I think she put together two very different things that made it very creative and the bacon/tomato jam is cool!

John's dish is weird, octopus hash & kimchi scramble with chorizo, hollandaise? Who knows, maybe I just don't get it. Seems like Tom doesn't quite get it either- it's missing the crispiness...

2 did well and 3 did not... who's who??? Overall the judges were not very pleased.

On top we have Sheldon and Shirley, however the winner of this challenge is Shirley! I am surprised since her beef was a bit dry, but that's ok, I'll take it!

On the bottom we have John, Brooke and Sylva. They all missed with their creativity... I do think they could have done better if they had a few hours to play around in the kitchen before coming up with their dishes. Like John said, you can't tell someone to be creative, it has to happen nore organically.

Padma and Gail are both sad about this decision- and the chef going home is Sylva! What a bummer, the last rookie and a really great chef! This was a ROUGH WEEK! We will see how LCK works out for these guys!

  1. Man...

Brutal episode for Le Chefre. Pickely lost a player, too, but as Kelly pointed out, Casey wasn't earning many (any) points. Sylva was a point producer!

I think Sheldon is a huge favorite at this point. If anyone disagrees they can pick any two other chefs vs Sheldon for a drink. Any takers?

As a fan I was disappointed in the chefs for their poor performance but I was also disappointed in the show for forcing them to compete in crappy circumstances. 2.5 hours to come up with a creative NEW dish and serve 100 people in rounds of 20? No wonder the dishes were underwhelming. C'mon TC, now that you have the strongest left let them flex their muscle.

Sylva was a beast given enough time. I think that's why he had done so well in elimination challenges. Check this out, he had only 1 QF top 3 and zero wins. He had 6(!) elimination top and/or wins. This is why I don't have much chance that he will return from LCK...maybe he's already gone. Still need to watch latest LCK. Jamie was the QF king before his elimination. It's going to be hard to knock him out and if he comes back that would secure a solid amount of points for Pickely, points they probably don't even need at this point with 2 chefs remaining.

The long reign of Le Chefre is in serious jeopardy. I will wait to congratulate Pickely until the offical results but the writing is on the wall.
