Episode 8- Restaurant WARS!!!!

The time has come- this is it!!! Best episode of the season, Restaurant Wars!!!! Hope it's not too awkward after the drama last week!

Each team serves on different days in the same space- I LIKE IT!

Latitude- First Night: Shirley (Exec Chef), Brooke (Front), Sylva, Emily
Southern Belle- Second Night: Katsuji, Sheldon, Casey (Front), John (Exec Chef)

Off the bat I think Latitude will do better (not that I want them to, my chefs are on the other team!) Shirley is doing a really good job keeping her team together and everyone happy and invested! She is good at being in charge! I am really excited to see how they do!

It's a little ominous with Brooke's story from her last front of the house experience when Kristen was eliminated, then came back to beat her! Week!
Brooke's dish looked great and the judges liked it!
Emily's pasta was off...
Shirley's Snapper was nice but nothing to write home about.
Slyva's Halibut was a fan favorite!
Emily's Cake was a success and they really liked it!
Shirley's Panna Cotta was too firm and the judges really hated it.
Brooke did a great job at front of the house, managed the crowd very well and the judges enjoyed her! Overall they did good, not great.
I think their theme was well received, but they did not have WOW food.

Southern Belle is lucky they have Sheldon, he is a power house and Casey could shine in front of the house. The liability here is John and Katsuji. They both have potential, but can they work together, well?

I think Katsuji may have bitten off more than he can chew! He is the king of LOTS of ingredients, but now he just has lots of dishes! He should not expect any help from John given how John typically works in a team. His team should have asked him to scale back a little... Casey is being a bit controlling in the front- she should rely on the staff bit more, but it seems they were not empowered to help her. Why did she not take the judges order? That was awkward! How does John not know how to read the tickets AT ALL?

Katsuji's Tamale was a bit burnt in flavor and did not fit the theme.
John's Crab Dip was a HUGE miss, they hated it.
Katsuji's Beef Tongue was good, everyone really liked it.
Sheldon's Stew was mushy and lacked flavor, they also did not understand his presentation at all.
Katsuji's Cobbler is undercooked and like his Tamale has the wrong theme with the tequila.
Casey's Strawberry dessert is the only thing the judges felt went with the theme. Unfortunately she is spending all her time in the back plating her dessert because the kitchen is such a mess.
It is clear by the end of the service that this is the losing team. I can't believe they didn't at least get their tickets and expediting figured out in advance. Even if you food sucks, that CAN save you... oh well, on to the judging!!!

As expected, Latitude is the winner! Brooke takes home the win for the team, Shirley gets Head Chef points too!

John got torn up with his Crab Dip and the errors with the expediting! Sheldon only doing 1 dish was a miss and Casey spending all her time in the kitchen did not help them. They don't understand why Katsuji passed the Exec Chef job to do 3 dishes instead. Or why John didn't stop Katsuji from overextending himself. In turn Katsuji throws John under the bus and makes himself look like an ass. I think he may have just dug his own grave... and I hope he goes home, he is annoying me!

Who's it gonna be... Katsuji or John? In the end, the judges were most disappointed with Katsuji!

  1. Watching this episode in real time I remember thinking that Red Team really left the door open. They didn't wow the judges based on the critiques in restaurant and the door was open for Blue Team to take the title.

Luckily, Katsuji and John destroyed any chance of a Blue Team victory.

I don't like losing Katsuji but I loved having so many chefres on Red Team. I think John deserved to go home more. He was absolutely horrendous as the expediter and his one dish looked rank and I think they said it was the worst dish of the night.

Did Katsuji take on too much doing 3 dishes? Yes, absolutely. But he made 3 dishes and at least 1 of them was a good dish.

Like I said, I can understand why they cut him.

Congrats to Bug on a positive score!

This episode was HUGE for Le Chefre as we basically switched places with Pickely. It's gonna be a close one!
