Episode 4- It's a Dry Heat

Palm Springs here we go! I like the traveling! Dry Heat is right- they are in the middle of the dessert! I would die without sunglasses!

Quickfire Challenge: Create a dish powered by the sun, very cool concept, solar powered ovens and stoves! I should tell James, he can buy one to keep with our generator in case something happens- Dooms Day Prepper! 30 mins to cook with an oven would suck... Poor Giselle, did they tell them not to use liquid? Who would have known that?

Bottom: Grayson, Giselle and Phillip's "Snot on a rock"

On the top- Jeremy, Wesley and Isaac, and the winner is Wesley with his cornbread!

Elimination Challenge: Oven Chefs vs Stove Chefs tee up to cook for golfers. Create a 4 course progressive meal without a kitchen, just refreshment carts!

Blue Team: Karen, Jeremy, Marjorie, Jason, Wesley, Carl and Phillip
Orange Team: Kwame, Chad, Angelina, Grayson, Giselle, Amar and Isaac
(Blue and Orange huh???)

Course 1 is Ceviche vs. Ceviche! Jeremy and Karen vs. Kwame and Chad. I feel like the blue team took it because theirs was colder and had a better flavor mesh.

Course 2 is Shrimp vs. Shrimp! Grayson and Angelia vs. Jason and Marjorie. Blue team took it again. Orange team's shrimp was overpowered and the corn is too cooked.

Course 3 is Pork Loin (Wesley and Carl) vs. NY Steak (Amar and Giselle). Blue team's grape was too warm the first round but they fixed it on the 2nd. Orange team's dish was not cohesive but still had good flavor. I am not sure who won it.

Course 4 is Dessert! Coconut Pudding (Phillip) vs. Grapefruit (Isaac). Orange- More grapefruit flavor was needed, maybe more tequila too.  Blue- texture was a bit off but the flavor was ok. Again- hard to tell.

First courses were better than the last, but the winning team is the Blue team (not shocked)! The dish that stood out the most was Course 1, Karen and Jeremy's Ceviche! Great presentation and great flavor! The winner is Jeremy.

Orange team had the judges least favorite meal which was Course 2, Grayson and Angelina's shrimp. It was a fatty dish with no acid, plus the corn was over cooked and the shrimp was over marinated and rubbery.

Ultimately the judges choose Grayson to pack her knives and go! And she is defensive till the last second. I have to say I am relieved, so glad Pickely is getting rid of some bad chefs!

  1. Good riddance to sour Grapeson. I don't remember you being such a poor loser on your previous season. You will not be missed.

I thought the solar stoves and ovens were pretty cool. I wonder how much they are?

LeChefre looking strong early. I think we made a wise choice in taking Jeremy first. If you remember we took forever to make that first pick and almost went with Isaac. It sounded like team Bug would have scooped him up with their first picks if we hadn't. True? If so, phew.

Team Bug must be used to sailing in rough waters because they are carrying two giant anchors on their boat.

Team Pickely continues to trim the fat off their team (and there was a lot of it!) but will there be enough meat left for a meal?

  2. We are really liking Jeremy and he would have been our first pick. So good job snapping him up. We hate that we picked Phillip instead of one of our other choices. If we had only known.

Glad to see Grayson go home, but we would have prefered Angelina go home. She is an anchor. We need to lose some fat too, otherwise le chefre will run away with this thing.

  3. Jeremy needs to prove himself with land meat before I'm willing to call him a frontrunner. We get that you're good with fish. Show us something else!

At this point I'm just hoping that we're out of the negatives by the end of the season. Why oh why did I suggest we pick Giselle over Marjorie?!!?
