Episode 13- Oui Si A Challenge

The QF was about super technique with Jacques Pépin! This was a lot of work to do in 30 mins! I don't even know what it was they had to make, Sole with Artichoke and Asparagus? Plus tomatoes and butter roses and on and on...

On a side note- why is French Cuisine the end all be all? Whatever...

On the bottom we had Brian, Carlos and Stephanie which was no surprise to me, especially Carlos!
Nick and Shirley were on top- both classically trained Frech Chefs- makes sense. Poor Nina forgetting to turn on her burners- at least she wasn't included in the bottom!
The winner on Immunity is Nick- and I think we can all agree we wish it had been Shirley instead...

So the elimination challenge was Spanish vs French! The chefs had to create 5 courses and use almonds, chocolate, olives, muscles and chicken.
French Team: Shirley, Nick and Stephanie (Mentor Dominque Crenn)
Spanish Team: Carlos, Nina and Brian (Mentor Julian Serrano)

It was kind of awesome they got to work with the mentors, BUT the mentors are more like dictators... They really didn't allow the chefs to cook their food in any way shape or form! I really thought the French team would take it based on the experience and confidence.

I was not really impressed with that potato salad with olives but neither was Nina so I didn't feel too judgmental- and in the end it was a great dish I guess!

The Spanish team took this win (HUGE for le'Chefre) and Nina was the winner of the challenge. I think at this point she is it. She will have the most points and take the win. I think it will be her, Shirley and Louis in the final 3...

Nick didn't just drop the ball-  he climbed the tallest thing he could find then tossed it off. I realize that the mentor had a lot to do with the dish- but you're on a team and have immunity and your team member is questioning your actions and spelling out that it will be her ass if the dish sucks. In that position you have to think of others- not yourself and Nick just did what he was told, to the T without considering his team or the dish.

The French team was on the bottom because of Nick's 2 dishes. This whole situation sucked so bad, and I could tell that even Jacques Pépin thought Nick should just step down. Rules are rules and Stephanie had to go home on a good dish. Sucked for her.

Ep 14: Po' Boy Smackdown: Food Truck pioneer Roy Choi stops by to judge this week's Quickfire -- a Nola staple -– po' boys. And for the Elimination Challenge, Actor/Director Jon Favreau stops by and asks the chef'testants to dig deep to put their own culinary visions on a plate.

  1. I really didn't like the elimination challenge this week. We are down to the very best of this season's remaining chefs and instead of letting them run wild they restricted them. It seemed to be the theme of the episode though, as the QF was a duplication challenge. It looks like they will get to do whatever they want next episode though. I am hoping for a dinner to rival the one produced for Charlize Theron. The quality of food on that episode was one of the best ever.

Moving from best ever to worst ever: The corn in silk nest looked like one of Leo's hairballs.

Stephanie didn't deserve to go like that but at least it will preserve her confidence.

I did not expect Nick to fall on the sword (ala Kristin K.) and he didn't. I think he will have a pretty big target on his back if he falls into the bottom next week.

  2. Nicholas failing to fall on the sword basically ends it for team 50 First Dates. No way the judges will vote him the winner down the line. Le Chefre Quatre to cinq and beyond!

  3. Interesting point bag!

If it's true that the judges' opinion of him has been irreparably damaged, he might have worked his way back from LCK & possibly won. Now, he's still in the game but it's virtually impossible to win.

Maybe they won't hold a grudge though, and he can work through it. I think Nina & Shirley both have to have TERR weeks though for him to have a chance at this point.

  4. Yeah, I think he failed to see the larger picture of his actions. He looked at it like resigning would likely make him lose the competition, but IMO, he actually guaranteed a loss by NOT resigning; AND, in doing so, really hurt his professional integrity which could have long-lasting implications.

  5. Why no caption for Stephanie yet? How about "Nicked"? "Nicholost"? "C'mar Man!"? Also, post my pic.
