Episode 10- Like Mama Made

I really liked this week. The challenges were not super hard so the chefs really got to cook well! Of course the Quick Fire was great, I LOVE coffee, so a Dunkin' Donuts challenge was really fun, especially with Hubert Keller!

I appreciated the chefs that made savory dishes, coffee is seen so much in desserts but it is such a nice flavor that I think it works well in everything. This was a High Stakes QF with a $10,000 prize and Shirley was so genuinely happy to win the money for A/C... she must really get hot in Vegas, haha

The Elimination Challenge was good too- Make a Dish Inspired by Food You Eat at Home! I was trying to think of what mine would be- this was harder than it seemed!

Nick sure was emotional with this challenge and we all saw him cry- sorry Nick that is a point! But there were really no "bad" dishes this week! It was nice to see everyone do well and have the judges really nit-pick.

Nick Stephanie and Carlos hit the mark with their dishes and Nick took the win with his Ricotta Gnudi With Pancetta, Peas, Lemon and Parmesan that he makes for his daughter... and it did look good!

Unfortunately there had to be a bottom 3... and it was Brian, Travis and Justin. Brian got a bad deal here because the tools he needed were not available. I knew he would be fine and that it came down to Travis and Justin. Justin's fault seemed to be that he did not have enough of a really good thing- his Chicken Gravy. In the end it was the person who did not execute his entire dish well, and that was Travis with his "raw in the middle" Biscuits With Maple Sage Sausage Gravy and Sour Plum Jam.
I think the judges made the right choice this week.

Ep 11: Giving It The College Try- In this week's Quickfire, popular musician Questlove (YES SO EXCITED) judges various types of poultry drumsticks. For the Elimination Challenge, the chefs head to LSU's campus to serve incoming students.

  1. Ding dong the witch is dead! Buh-bye Travis. At least you ended on a personality high note the past 2 weeks.

I was intrigued by the coffee challenge as I just received my first coffee maker as a present a couple weeks ago. I've always wanted to do a coffee crusted steak of some type.

I always enjoy the cook from home episode because the chefs always bring their A game. The food looked delicious!

Nick's gnudi looked SO good. I want to make it. And eat it. And then make it again so other people can have a bite. Maybe. I will be substituting salt for tears though. Get it together Nick.

Le Chefre really caught a lucky break picking up Stephanie. She has proven herself to be a solid chef. If it had been Patty voted out in episode 1 instead of Ramon Le Chefre and Pickely would probably be tied in points.

Side note: I was reading through some of the earlier blog posts (from season's past) and Doug you used to comment a lot more. C'mon man! Step it up. You too Snaders - now's your time to gloat. Enjoy this outlier of a season for Le Chefre.

  2. This is not an outlier, this a return to expectation from extreme variance. Viva le Chefre!

    Geaux Tigers.

  3. Travis has been a dbag in the past, but at this point in time I'd actually rather have seen Justin go home. That dude has some serious anger/assholery issues that he should see a therapist about.

He gets SO defensive when he's in the bottom at judges table that I wish Padma would slap him across the face.

He's probably not long for the competition, though. Brian is probably the weakest chef left and Justin is the weakest mentally. Once those two are gone it's just a bunch of mega-chefs going up against each other!
