Episode 14- Holy Escamoly!

Final 3!!! Mei Greg and Doug were sad to see Melissa go, but this is a competition!

Last Quickfire!!! Cook with Chocolate, a sweet and a savory dish and find your ingredients in the farm! Winner get's 1st choice of Sous Chef, but they only have 45 min to get ingredients and cook both dishes! This is a HARD challenge!

I cannot believe Doug didn't practice his desserts!!! He should have known better!

The chefs did a decent job overall-
Doug's savory dish was very well cooked, but his dessert was un-balanced
Mei's savory dish worked well together and the dessert was well done
Greg's lamb was well cooked with a great sauce and his dessert was really good

The QF winner is Greg with his Seared Lamb With White Chocolate Ancho Sauce and Green Chorizo Vinaigrette and Baby Carrots With Turmeric, Dark Chocolate and Ginger

Elimination Challenge- work together to create a 6 course progressive meal highlighting Mexican ingredients, must highlight those ingredients. Guava, Queso, Avocado, Poblano, Huitlacoche (Fungus from Corn) and Escamoles (Ant Eggs). Doug kinda got screwed with 2 ingredients he didn't like. Also interesting that they have to go find these ingredients themselves at the market! I guess when in Mexico...

I feel like Greg should have done a dessert with the Guava. You cannot have a full dinner without dessert!!!

First Course: Greg- Guava
Chilled Guava Soup With Bay Scallops Habanero and Roasted Guava- They really liked the sophistication and heat

Second Course: Mei- Avocado
Guacamole With Xoconostle, Radish, Serrano, and Tortilla Chips -Avocado was the star, they liked that it was elevated but was it too simple? Can do so much more with an Avocado

Third Course: Doug- Escamoles
Tortilla Español With Escamoles and Escamol Aioli - Flavor didn't come through enough and texture blended with the potato

Forth Course: Mei- Huitlacoche
Huitlacoche Agnolotti With Roasted Corn Broth - Corn flavor comes through and the pasta is well made, one of the strongest dishes so far

Fifth Course: Greg- Poblano
Pork and Poblano Stew With Tomatillos- "This is Mexico" and has great texture and flavor

Sixth Course: Doug- Queso
Smoked Queso Fresco With Spiced Honey, Squash Chips, and Charred Pickles - Good quality, exciting take on a course that could have been boring
Greg is the first chef to move forward to the finale and he is the winner of this challenge.

And Doug is going home...

At this point the winning chef will determine the winning team... Greg or Mei?!

I have to say that I HATE that this whole season was on SO late at night for me that I couldn't watch it on the night it aired, and ALSO that the Top Chef website spoiled almost every win this whole season... I already know who won Top Chef this season and the episode hasn't even aired yet!
